Dear Goddard House Friends and Colleagues:
Goddard House continues to be a leader in advancing autonomy, choice and innovation along with comfort, community and peace of mind for older adults within our assisted living residence and in our community. Milestones in 2017 included: new leadership on the board and executive team; more forums for dialogue with residents, families and the community; the sale of our historic Jamaica Plain property; and multiple awards and other recognition for our unique approach. We appreciate your support along with the dedication, creativity and hard work of the Goddard House staff.
The Goddard House Farm Project won praise at the national LeadingAGE Conference in New Orleans. Closer to home, LeadingAGE Massachusetts awarded us the 2017 Program Innovation Award for Opening Minds through Art (OMA), designed for people living with dementia. Again, staff chaired the Greater Boston Walk to End Alzheimer’s, now the largest of its kind in the world!
Three of our department heads are receiving trainer certification in Positive Approach to Care from renowned Alzheimer’s expert, Teepa Snow. We will integrate this best practice into the orientation and education of all staff on Olmsted Place, our memory support neighborhood.
Our in-house Gallery M drew media attention with two unique exhibits, OMA and The Reunion Project, created by or about Goddard House residents. Green City Growers held indoor classes and our inventive program staff spun off the farm themes with Garden to Gourmet group. With the Brookline Senior Center, we piloted Camp Memory Connections, the town’s first dementia-friendly summer day camp. And our popular summer jazz series was extended to include winter concerts. Stay tuned for more partnerships that will broaden our program offerings to older adults living in Boston.
As the new Board President, I can say that there is no place quite like Goddard House. The unique quality of life here is sustained by your support. Please make a gift to our 2017 Annual Appeal General Fund to help maintain our programs and services for older adults; or to the Matilda Goddard Fund for Staff Development, which subsidizes the training and education of our staff.
On behalf of all of us, I wish you happy holidays!
Alexandra Schweitzer, President
Goddard House Board of Trustees
